Fichas de lac Tanganyika
Las especies del lago Tanganyika son más de 350 peces, incluidos cíclidos e invertebrados. La lista de especies también incluye algunas especies raras de cíclidos del lago Victoria y del lago Alberto, ubicados un poco más al norte que el lago Tanganica.
La ventaja de los Grandes Lagos del Rift de África Oriental es la composición constante y permanente del agua. Por tanto, los parámetros fisicoquímicos para el mantenimiento de especies en acuarios son bien conocidos.
Las aguas del lago Tanganyika se caracterizan por ser alcalinas (pH 7,6–9,0) y de alta dureza (dureza de carbonatos KH 7–11, dureza general GH 12–20). La temperatura del agua es muy estable y oscila entre 24 y 27 °C. Algunas especies que viven a mayor profundidad (por debajo de los 20 metros) pueden preferir aguas ligeramente más frías (22 °C). Se recogieron datos de TDS entre 441 y 455 ppm.
El sustrato para un acuario de peces del lago Tanganyika es arena de grano fino (0,25–1,0 mm) porque muchas especies de cíclidos filtran la arena para alimentarse.
